Mercedes is making progress in electric vehicle (EV) technology by testing solid-state batteries in select prototype vehicles. These advanced batteries, according to industry experts, could change the EV industry by offering longer driving ranges, faster charging, and better safety. Unlike traditional lithium-ion batteries, solid-state batteries use a solid electrolyte instead of a liquid one. This makes them safer, more efficient, and capable of holding more energy.
