Chechen Warlord Accuses Musk of Remotely Disabling Cybertruck

In what feels like a plot straight out of a sci-fi movie, Chechen warlord Ramzan Kadyrov has claimed that billionaire tech mogul Elon Musk remotely deactivated a Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ: TSLA) Cybertruck that he supposedly gifted him in Chechnya. Kadyrov, who is close to Vladimir Putin, said that Musk “switched off” the Cybertruck from across the globe.

The saga began when Kadyrov shared a video of himself driving a Tesla Cybertruck outfitted with a machine gun on its roof. When Musk gifted Kadyrov the electric pickup truck, he was over the moon. According to the Chechen leader, it is fast, comfortable, maneuverable and nearly indestructible, in other words, a “cyberbeast.” He shared a video of himself driving through the empty streets of Grozny, hopping out of the truck with an ammunition belt around his neck, and posing with the mounted machine gun.

Even though the cybertruck was designed to handle rough terrain, the claims that it was turned into a war machine raised eyebrows. As expected, the story quickly spread and even caught the attention of Musk himself. Without mincing words, the Tesla CEO responded on X, questioning the authenticity of the claim. He wrote, “Are you honestly so foolish to believe that I gifted a cybertruck to a Russian general?”

Soon after Musk dismissed the idea that he had gifted Kadyrov the high-tech vehicle, Kadyrov made an even more bizarre allegation. He shared a post on Telegram that claimed that Musk had remotely disabled the cybertruck.

Furthermore, Kadyrov shared more claims that the Cybertruck was part of the war in Ukraine, where it performed “admirably.” Of course, these are just unverified claims. However, they align with Kadyrov’s earlier assertions that the truck will take part in a “special military operation zone” supporting Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

These claims couldn’t come at a worst time. There has been tension between Musk and the Ukrainian authorities. Even though Musk provided the Starlink satellite network to aid Ukraine’s defense, he still faced criticism for refusing to allow Starlink to be used in attacks on Crimea. Because of the uneasy relationship, Kadyrov’s claims are more intriguing.

Many are asking if Musk could actually disable the cybertruck. Technically speaking, it is possible to switch off the cybertrucks because they are connected to the internet and can receive software updates remotely. With the right access, someone could disable certain functions of the truck from miles away.  However, whether Musk actually did this remains a mystery.
