Alibaba’s DingTalk Unveils Upgraded AI Assistant

Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. (NYSE: BABA) subsidiary and workplace communication platform DingTalk has unveiled a new artificial intelligence (AI) agent marketplace and an upgraded AI assistant. The new ecosystem has more than 200 agents sourced from a myriad of third-party developers while the upgraded DingTalk AI assistant is now capable of processing up to 500 pages of text as well as videos and images at a time.

DingTalk is one of the latest technology companies to incorporate artificial intelligence-powered technology into its operations in recent years. With AI being among the largest trends of the decade so far, every company in the technology field is scrambling to deploy AI tools and reap some of the supposed benefits.

With DingTalk’s unveiling of a new AI agent marketplace, DingTalk users will now be able to leverage third-party AI agents to complete a wide variety of job-related tasks, the workplace communication platform said. The AI-powered agents accessible through the new marketplace specialize in enterprise-facing features, industry-specific services and productivity tools.

Upgrading its proprietary AI agent, DingTalk AI also allowed the tool to process data from a much wider variety of sources, such as images and video. DingTalk president, Ye Jun, stated that the Alibaba subsidiary believed that the AI agents were set to become the foundation of applications in the future. The company hopes to develop the new DingTalk AI Agent Store into a major hub for growing and exchanging AI agents, Jun added.

Despite the technology’s relatively young age, artificial intelligence is already playing an increasingly critical role across the supply chains of various important industries. The technology’s ability to crunch massive amounts of data in extremely small timeframes makes it an invaluable tool for industries that generate or have to ingest a lot of data.

AI agents, software programs designed to increase productivity in the workplace, have become popular among businesses globally over the past several years. Furthermore, a poll conducted by Accenture last year found that most C-suite executives believe that AI agent ecosystems will provide organizations with major opportunities over the next couple of years.

With more than 700 million active users as of last year, DingTalk has also taken steps to adopt AI technology. The workplace communication platform first used generative AI technology last April when it teamed up with Qwen VL, the company’s large language model, for the launch of the DingTalk AI Assistant.

In less than a year, more than 2.2 million companies globally, including around 1.7 million monthly active corporations, have tapped into the platform’s AI tools.
