LinkedIn has become one of the most popular places for professionals to share ideas, look for jobs, and build connections. But in recent months, many users have complained that their feeds are filled with posts that feel empty, repetitive, and clearly written by artificial intelligence. These posts often use the same structure: a dramatic opening line, a list of short points, a few emojis, and a request for comments or followers. LinkedIn is now taking action because it believes this kind of content could damage the value of the platform.
The problem is often called AI slop. It refers to content that looks polished at first glance but has little real thought, personal experience, or useful information behind it. As AI writing tools have become cheaper and easier to use, more people have started producing large amounts of content quickly. This has made it harder for genuine voices to stand out. On LinkedIn, where people expect meaningful professional discussion, generic posts can feel especially frustrating.
Research suggests the issue is serious. One report found that more than four in ten long posts on LinkedIn may have been created with AI. That is a higher share than on several other popular platforms. When so much content follows the same pattern, users may stop paying attention. They may also begin to question whether the people posting are sharing real experiences or simply trying to gain attention.
LinkedIn’s leaders say the solution is not to ban AI completely. Instead, the platform wants people to use AI more thoughtfully. AI can help someone organize ideas, check grammar, or explain a difficult subject. But it cannot replace a person’s own judgment, story, or perspective. A post becomes valuable when the writer adds something only they can offer: a lesson learned at work, an honest opinion, a useful example, or a clear point of view.
To deal with the problem, LinkedIn has introduced ways for users to report posts that seem like low-quality AI content. Many people used this feature soon after it appeared. The company is also improving its systems to detect content that lacks originality or substance. When a post is identified as low quality, it may reach fewer people beyond the writer’s immediate network.
LinkedIn has also created teams that guide writers toward better habits. Their advice is simple: write like a human. Do not chase perfect formatting or trendy phrases. Share something real, even if it is unfinished or imperfect. A short video recorded on a phone or a casual thought that starts a conversation may connect better than a highly polished but empty post.
This development could be of great interest to entities like Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. (NYSE: BABA) that develop AI models. This is because such growing frustrations pose a challenge to AI companies to come up with better models that can produce content that is indistinguishable from content written by humans.
