NIO Inc. (NYSE: NIO), the Chinese electric vehicle maker, has officially started mass production of its highly anticipated vehicle, Onvo L60. This rollout, which is the first for company, has marked a significant milestone for the company and the EV industry at large. This highly anticipated EV, which is set to take on the Tesla Model Y, will begin deliveries late next month.
So, what makes Onvo L60 so unique? The vehicle positions itself as a mid-sized electric SUV with a sleek, minimalist interior. Unlike the cluttered dashboards in most vehicles, this SUV features a dashboard-less design, with a striking 17.3-inch 3K central display that is responsible for the majority of the vehicle’s controls. There is a smaller display just above the steering wheel that serves as a speedometer.
The vehicle features fast- and slow-charging options and battery-swapping capabilities designed to appeal to a broad range of EV enthusiasts who value convenience and efficiency.
However, there is more to the ONVO EV than just the look. Designers of the L60 equipped the vehicle with Nio’s SkyOS operating system, which is compatible with a 13-inch HUD with Nintendo Switch and other devices. If comfort is your most considerable flex, you will be pleasantly surprised by the fully reclining front seats and the rear seats’ eight-inch entertainment control screen.
The Onvo L60 also has excellent performance and technology that pushes the boundaries for EVs. A robust 900V platform architecture and a 60.6 kWh battery pack deliver power to a single 240 kW motor. This setup offers a CLTC range of between 525 and 555 kilometers. If you need more power, the 4WD variant provides an additional 100 kW e-motor in the front, giving a total range of between 501 and 525 kilometers.
Unlike those marketed under the NIO brand, these EV vehicles are affordable and targeted to customers with not-so-developing pockets looking for high-performance vehicles. With a sleek design, high performance and modern technology, the Onvo L60 is designed for a wider customer base.
